Mission

To enhance and accredit the cohesiveness, esprit de corps, and traditions of valor of rotary wing aircrews that flew in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam Era. To seek out, using whatever means available, individuals who piloted rotary wing aircraft in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam era and inform them of the existence of the VHPA and encourage all eligible individuals to become members. Membership is open to all helicopter pilots who flew in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam era (1961-1975).

Chapter Profile

The Washington State Chapter of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association (VHPA) was founded in September, 2000 by Jack Salm, Jr. It holds regular meetings in Washington state.

Last Meeting

The members marched in the annual Veterans Day Parade in Auburn, Washington on November 5th. The UH-1 float was very well received on a beautiful, sunny day by thousands of grateful citizens.
Check out the spectacular video (PC-only) created by Dan Fox. When prompted, you'll need to install the Presenter plug-in to see the video. It's been checked out and it's safe.

Next Meeting

The next chapter meeting of the Washington State chapter of the VHPA will be held at Famous Dave’s BBQ in Tacoma on Saturday, 18th of February at 11AM. After the meeting, the chapter will be hosting a BBQ lunch and all VHPA members or those who wish to become members are encouraged to attend. You’ll be able to buy hats, patches, pins and stickers with our new logo, so you might bring a few extra dollars.

We will also be electing officers for 2012 during the meeting, so if you’re interested in running for a job, or would like to nominate someone who is too shy to step forward, please contact Chapter President Mark Hansen via email or a phone (206) 604-0505. Involvement in the chapter doesn’t have to be as an officer. We a have quite a few members that are called upon during the year, for special projects, so if you’d like to just help out, just let us know.

For future planning, the June meeting will be at the Olympic Air Show. The eastern Washington meeting will be in August—the location is yet to be determined. Check back here for details.

If you have a topic for chapter consideration and would like to add it to the February (or any) meeting agenda, please contact Mark Hansen by email or phone.
