The Washington State Chapter of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association held their August 2003 meeting in the galley Naval Air Station Whidbey starting at 11:00. We had the privilege of partaking in some fine food from the galley of Admiral Nimitz Hall. The chapter banner was proudly laid out on a partition at the entrance of our reserved seating area. We feasted on custom omelets and a variety of other fine food.
Our brief business meeting started with Jack Salm presenting the idea of us purchasing “polo” type shirts with breast pocket with our logo and the VHPA national logo on the back. We agreed and when Jack has a price then we should pay in advance for the order before they are printed. Any member interested in getting a shirt should contact Jack at the next meeting. The chapter decided to plan for a party at Bangor Navy Submarine base—families will be invited. The first 33 people to RSVP will get to take a sub tour; the others will be going to the sub museum. (No, that’s not a sub sandwich!) We would be eating at the Bangor Officers club. Jack Salm is the POC for this event. You can visit their web site at: http://www.bangor.navy.mil/

Bill Vaughn, our newsletter editor (and web master), has been approved to setup & host a web site for our chapter. We will then be able to keep better informed and stay up to date. Thank you Bill— this will make a big impact on our organization. Bill also handed out copies of the current newsletter from our last meeting and the follow up information. Mike Brown is the POC for events where we can march in parades and display the chapter banner. Jack is also working with the Olympia Flight Museum to arrange to tow their display UH-1 “Huey” during a parade. In the May newsletter is the update on the Spokane Air show for 2004 at Fairchild AFB; Rex Harder is the POC for this event. Jack also passed out the new 2003-2004 Membership Roster to those who had not received theirs by mail to date. Thank you Jack for this effort.
