Meeting Minutes
Meeting and Briefing at Famous Dave’s BBQ, Tacoma, WA.
Subject: Minutes of
business meeting and other notes of interest.
The business meeting was 09:15 to 10:00AM.
1.
Dave Rosenkranz, our chapter president, opened the meeting. All present
introduced themselves and their Vietnam unit and/or call sign. Our guests today
were Barbara (?). Arlene Crandle (our speakers wife) participated in the
comments.
2.
Business announcements:
a. The Auburn
Veterans Parade signup is available and everyone is urged to attend.
b. An
announcement that a member: Roosevelt “Roe” Wilson from Lacey died recently of
illness.
3.
Skip Blaksley treasures’ report for today is $4,219.73 before the meal
which the chapter paid for including the use of the room. The dues statement
will be out soon.
4.
Secretary’s report was read from the June meeting at the Olympia Air
show.
Old Business:
- Dave explained the Directory
is being updated and written to a computer disk . It will be passed to the
next president.
- Dave recapped the years
activities:
- Banners are finished and
in use.
- The McChord Air Show
display from July went off well.
- Jack Salm has moved up
the line as the member at large for the National VHPA now and did a
brief recap of this-years reunion in San Francisco. The next reunion
will be in Washington DC. The last time in DC, all veterans were highly
praised & enjoyed the parade. We should all be in it, if we attend.
- The Special Forces
Picnic was a very interesting event, which the host supports every year
at Crest Airpark near Covington. Doug Decker will post the photos on our
web site hosted by Bill Vaughn.
- Our web host, Bill
Vaughn will be reimbursed $20 for a small part of the ongoing cost of
hosting the web site from our treasury.
- Some mention that Ms.
Ann Weldon, VA representative from the Olympia meeting, was indeed a
help to some of our members.
New Business:
- Dick Glasgow now takes over
as the new President for our Chapter.
- Chris Farwell, an Alaska
Airline pilot, was duly elected at the new “Senior Member at Large. And Paul
Fleming was elected as the new “Jr. Member at Large”, both men replacing the
men in those slots who were not able to continue.
- Information about “Space A”
information travel from McChord AFB terminal and several members shared VA
information.
- The next meeting suggestion
again was for Pacific Beach and a start time of around noon rather than 9:00
AM so people could drive over that morning and not have to stay the night.
The notice will be mailed out as to the actual location, date, time.
Guest speaker was member: Bruce
Crandall, along with his wife Arlene, talking about some of the real events of
the battle from the movie and book “We were Soldiers”. Bruce was the “Lead”
pilot, commander for the flights. Bruce covered the “lessons learned” for that
time and for the fighting in RVN. Bruce covered many other interesting facts of
the book/movie and his military adventures.
